The annual Mustang Gallop fundraiser is almost upon us. The kick-off assemblies are scheduled for Friday, 20 Sept in the morning, one for the littles at 9 and the other, for the bigs, at 9:30. I know you know: The Gallop is an essential event to our school. In the past we've been able to purchase new playground equipment, new tables for the library, new technology, and new Promethean and Smartboards for all of our classrooms with monies raised through the Gallop.
Last year the Gallop raised more than $18,000 for our outdoor classroom and playground renovations project, to revitalize and restore our currently leaky, disheveled, and disorganized grounds. This year's Gallop monies will be earmarked for the same project. We hope will break-ground this coming summer.
Our Gallop is the envy of most of the schools in FUSD. Our PTO works wonders to pull it off, without contracting with an expensive promoter to make it happen. No other organization "gets a cut" of our event. That means we get to keep all the money raised by this one-day event.
We need our students and families to "buy in" to the Mustang Gallop. That's only going to happen if we kick the event off and sustain some level of excitement and anticipation for it throughout the fundraising time period. In the past, we've done pretty well at that.
But, as you know, the guy in this video is no longer with us...
What will we do?
Hopefully, we'll rally. For the rally.
At PTO last night, the question was asked, "Could another teacher, or group of teachers, pull together a skit or some sort of new character for the Mustang Gallop kick-off assembly?"
I responded, "Maybe. I'll ask."
So, here I am. Asking. Making a special request of you...
Are you or a group of your staff-member cohorts, willing/able/interested in putting together some sort of enticing, humorous, spectacular program for our two assemblies on 20 September? If so, we'll find a way to get your classroom or work-assignment covered while you "perform" for out students. I've got a feeling there are a few great actors out there who might be able to do something really special for this event, to get the Gallop kicked-off right.
