Updates - 25 August 2017

Hello everyone,

Just wanted you all to know how encouraged I am feeling after meeting with each of our teacher collaborative teams this week to discuss our overall student achievement and AZMerit data.  I was so pleased to both see and hear universally positive outlooks and commentary from everyone as we took our first hard look at how our students are currently doing here at Marshall and to gather our thoughts about what we intend to do to spur them on toward ever better achievement in the future.

Thanks for being awesome and for always putting our students first.

Specials Transitions
Mrs. Reasor writes, "Thank you teachers for your cooperation in getting students to their scheduled specials on time. We are happy to announce that transitions have been built into the schedule this year.  Classroom teachers will no longer need to transition between specials as in the past.  Please teachers take the time to remind your students how important it is to be on their best hallway behavior during these quick transitions.

"Mrs. Burgoon will transport your class from PE to Art.  Art will line up for Music and Mrs. Burgoon pick up your class from Music to proceed outside, to her classroom or to the gym.

"Mr. Neil will be transitioning classes from Fit Kids to Library.  He will then pick up Library to take your students to Fit Kids in his classroom or outside.

"Thank you for your cooperation and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Reasor."

Magnet Monday
Reasor also wants you to know, "Magnet Monday will begin Monday, August 28th!"

FHS Homecoming Parade  
We've been invited to sit curbside and watch the Flagstaff High School homecoming parade on Friday morning, 15 September .  As usual, it will occur right in the middle our our Friday early-release lunch schedule.  It's supposed to begin at 10:40, but it has never ever started on time.  Please bear that in mind, along with the fact that your students must eat on time that day, if you are considering taking your students out to Bonito to watch the parade.

Adult Dodgeball
Don't forget: Marshall is hosting its 7th Annual Adult Dodgeball Tournament on Saturday, 16 September  from noon-4:00 at the Thorpe Tennis Complex.  This awesome annual event used to take place at the end of May.  All information, photos and team registration is online.  There's still time for you to field your dream-team and fight for the trophy!

FUSD Athletic Passes
Malinda has FUSD athletic passes for all who desire them.  These passes are free for the taking and will admit you free of charge to most FUSD sporting events, excluding those that are held at the NAU Skydome.

Flagstaff Education Association
Casey Reger is the new Flagstaff Education Association (FEA) representative on our campus.  She'd like you to know, "I am here to answer any questions for current members as well as to converse with those who are interested or considering joining.  There is a "no pressure" zone with me here, I am simply in this position to support worker rights as we do amazing things with amazing people at Marshall. Soon, there will be an FEA bulletin board in the copy room and I encourage all to take a look at what FEA has accomplished over the recent years as well as important updates."

Foster Grandparents
Jessica Bagley has notified me that April Smith, an experienced Foster Grandparent, is available again this year to serve part-time in a K-2 classroom.  If you're interested in having her volunteer in your room, please let Jessica know of your interest, 928-600-9223.

Updates - 18 August 2017

Hello everyone,

Well, as of today, we're officially at Days Without Cops +2.  We went back to zero on Wednesday at about 4:30 in the afternoon, when a patrolman from Flagstaff PD showed up in the front office wondering if one of our kinders had been reported as missing by family. Turns out, the wayward 6-year-old they'd found wandering around alone on Santa Fe Avenue down by I Do, I Do wasn't one of ours.

Nonetheless, I'm sure grateful to the folks at FPD for taking good care of the children of Flagstaff and for knowing that they could count on us to help them get the kid home.  My thanks as well to the whole contingent of faculty who were working with the police officer, making calls and sending texts, by the time I arrived back on campus to assist.

Each school committee will provide the Site Council with an annual report of its goals and activities.  All members should plan to attend Site Council on the afternoon your committee is scheduled to make its report.  You will be dismissed following your report (though you're welcomed to stay and attend the remainder of the meeting if you care to).

Important Forms
Please be sure to collect and return to the office ASAP all of your student "Emergency Card" forms and the "PARENT RECEIPT FOR RECEIVING SCHOOL HANDBOOK, SELECTED STUDENT POLICIES AND REGULATIONS, STUDENT DIRECTORY INFORMATION, STUDENT MEDIA INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY RESPONSIBLE USE AGREEMENT" form.  We need the "Emergency Forms" in the front office to help us track down the parents of our leftovers in the afternoon.  And, starting on 31 August, your students will not be able to utilize any of our iPads or desktop computers if they don't have the "Responsible Use Agreement" signed and returned.

Updates - 11 August 2017

Hello everyone,

This time of the year, it's common for us to observe that "summer flew by," that the school year "started too soon,"  and other similar sentiments.  This year, for me, it kinda feels like we just returned from a long holiday weekend.  The transition between the last school year and this one was undeniably quick, but (looking on the plus side) maybe that contributed to our super simple start yesterday.  Hard to remember a first day that went as smoothly as things did on Thursday.  I'm truly grateful to everyone for the all-hands-on-deck attitude that was on display in every corner of the building all day on the first day of school.  My thanks to all of you for the earnest efforts you put into getting things in gear in short order for the 2017-2018 school year.

I hope you're half as excited about the coming school year as the guy in the video below is about, well, everything...

AM/PM Duty
Teachers, thanks for being mindful of our morning and afternoon duty schedule. Please, make every effort to be sure that you:
A) arrive on time for your duty
B) make arrangements to trade with a cohort whenever you are absent from work on your duty day
C) remember, it is not technically okay to send your student/Praxis teacher out to do your duty for you; you must accompany them.
D) wear a safety vest so that students are able to locate you quickly
