I snuck away from my office mid-day on Thursday to make a visit to the doctor. The hearing in my right ear took a rather remarkable turn for the worse this past weekend, accompanied by a concerning bout with vertigo on Saturday evening. Our friendly neighborhood ear, nose and throat doc has, after much testing, diagnosed me with "sudden sensorineural hearing loss" in my right ear caused by labrynthitis which is a rare, sorta scary, somewhat mysterious, but generally treatable infection in one's cochlea. Until this week I had, honestly, almost forgotten that I even had one of those. Turns out, I'm now reminded that I have two, albeit only one of them, it seems, is functioning as intended.
Dr. Tritle has encouraged me to advise all friends, family, and faculty with whom I have a relationship (if you're reading this, that means you) that the Prednisone that he has prescribed for me may make me grumpy(er). So be advised (gosh dang it). On that note, a quick heads-up: I will likely need to take a day off in the next two or three weeks to submit to a head MRI, which Doc Tritle says is the "standard of care" for this particular illness to rule out "abnormalities" which might be growing on my vestibular nerves.
Yay.

Gradebook super-czar Heather Overton writes, "I just want to remind everyone that you need to get your grade books set up if you have not done so already. There are two processes that must take place.

FHS Homecoming Parade
CHANGE OF PLANS: The Flagstaff High School homecoming parade will take place on Friday morning, 8 September (not 15 September as reported last week) . It is still scheduled to occur right in the middle our our Friday early-release lunch schedule, at 10:40, but, remember, it has never ever started on time.

Sanford Harmony Professional Development Seminar
We've planned for some time for our teachers to receive training in the Sanford Harmony "social emotional learning program" and we're still on schedule to do so next Friday, 08 September, during our first two-hour professional development seminar of the school year. We should be ready to begin in the Library at 1:00. It's my expectation that all certified staff members will attend. It's my hope that this training opportunity will help all of you to more fully and faithfully implement this new curriculum with your students.
