Midweek updates - 28 Jan. 2013

Hello everyone,

Happy Monday!  As I implied in last Friday afternoon's post, I have a few additional items for you to be aware of.

Please remember to acknowledge this post at the bottom...

Marshall Band & Choir
Band and Choir students will perform, and Marshall Art students will display their work, at the Coconino Center For The Arts on 08 March from 4:30-5:00 PM at the annual Youth Art Exhibition. The exhibition will remain open until 7:30 PM that evening.  As an important member of team-Marshall, you are encouraged to attend.

Jump Rope For Heart
Lucky has sent several emails in recent days with a schedule for upcoming Jump Rope For Heart - American Heart Association fundraiser events.  Grades 2-3 will Jump on 08 Feb.  Grades 4-5 will Jump on 15 Feb.  Please review your email for specific times.

Sustainability In Education Awards
All teachers in Coconino County are eligible to apply for one of four $1000.00 awards from the Northern Arizona Sustainable Economic Development Initiative.  The purpose of these awards is to recognize development and implementation of educational approaches that instill in students the importance and value of aspects of sustainability.  Awards will be granted to teachers or groups of teachers.  Application information is available online.

Playground Committee
I really like this one.
As you probably already know, this year's PTO Mustang Gallop funds were earmarked for playground improvements, specifically field renovations, equipment upgrades, and the installation of a covered shelter/outdoor classroom area.  In order for these improvements to occur, we need a committee to spearhead this effort.  There's quite a bit of money to be spent, and a lot of room for some great, innovative ideas to be implemented.  A committee of 5-6 folks from various grade-levels and departments at Marshall would be ideal, I think.  If you're inclined to be a part of this process, please let me know.

Human Resources Stuff
The last two items were sent to you via district email from Dietrich Sauer, director of Human Resources, and are reprinted below for your information.

FUSD ID Badges
From Dietrich Sauer, director of Human Resources:
Access Questions
·         FACTS employees:  Must submit a completed badge request form approved by the building principal detailing their access rights.
·         Employees with multiple locations:  The badge request form must be approved by the principal/director of each location to gain access.
·         Substitutes will obtain “school sub” badges when they check in with the building secretary before starting work.   The buildings will be responsible for logging in and out substitute badges.   The number of sub badges issued to each site will be based upon head count.  Lost sub badge costs will be charged to the locations.
·         Student Workers and Teachers:  We are working with NAU to see if NAU can provide the funding for badges. If not, Student workers/Teachers will follow the same requirement of submitting the badge request form signed by the building principal, but will also have to pay $6.00.

If a badge does not work
·         Send an email to keycard@fusd1.org with your full name, location, and brief description of what is not working when it did not work.  Often the badge will not work if you are attempting to access a door before/after your approved access time in the system.

If your badge is lost or broken, HR will issue a new badge at a cost of $6.00.

Personal Leave Incentive Program - 2012-2013 School Year
From Dietrich Sauer, director of Human Resources:
The Personal Leave Incentive Program is designed to decrease the usage of substitute positions in the school district.  This is accomplished by incentivizing employees in positions that require a substitute to not call off during regular work days.

Eligibility
·        The position must be eligible to accrue or receive personal leave annually per board policy or contract
·        The position must be in a role requiring a substitute for when they are out for the day.  For example, a classroom teacher.
·        Only personal leave hours accrued or allotted during the current contract or school year can be considered.  Previously banked / rolled over personal leave hours are not considered.  Vacation hours, or any other paid time off amounts are not part of the incentive program.

Program Details
·        After the last contract day of the school year, each eligible position can request to have 50% of their unused annual personal leave accrual paid out via their existing payroll agreement (ie. live check or direct deposit to established account) The remainder is placed into their personal leave bank.
·        Requests will be made via an online request process.  The request process closes on June 15.
·        Payroll will process the payout amounts by the last pay-date in June.
·        If a request is not received: the days are automatically placed into the personal leave bank and rolled over to the next year per district policy. These days are not eligible for the payout program.

Payout Process
·        For every two days remaining in their current year bank, the potential payout is $50 per full day.
·        The payout request can only be for 50% of total available balance accrued for the pervious 12 months in whole days. Partial days (less than 6 hours) are not considered.
·        Days in the employee’s previous year personal leave bank are not considered.
·        Days are rounded down for payout purposes:  9 personal leave days are eligible for a payout of 4 days, not 5.
·        The payout amount per requested day is $50.
·        Payouts of less than 3 days will not be issued. (Less than $150)
·        Any unused days will roll over to the following year.
·        If the employee has any existing monies due to the district, that amount will be deducted from their payout amount.
