I have always believed: We each possess many of the traits required to achieve Greatness, so do our students. Greatness is a matter of how (or whether) individuals choose to apply their gifts, muster their courage, put others ahead of themselves, and persist in the face of challenge and adversity.
Great people...
- are patient; they don't get mad easily
- will fight for what they believe in
- are willing to teach others
- are generous
- are talented
- are competitive
- are courageous
- are knowledgeable
- are willing to work hard
- have a good sense of humor
- understand how others feel
- are familiar with sadness
- understand that life goes on
- are willing to go first
- don't give up
- set goals and achieve them
- are able to collaborate or work alone
- care about others
- provide others with necessary things
- take risks and accept consequences
- fail repeatedly yet continue to move forward
"Greatness is not in one special place or one special person. Greatness is wherever somebody is trying to find it."
We are all capable of Greatness. That's the reason I spent years teaching this concept to my students. And it's the same reason I'd like to adopt it as the central theme for our school year.
