Happy Friday!
Nice to see grass on our field finally this week! We're probably going to be asked to keep our students off it for a while in order to allow it to take root, which may not really start to happen until spring. Plus, the jogging track materials that will surround the grass are back-ordered. So anyway, the long and short of it is, the snow-fencing is likely to remain in place for some time to come.
The snow-fencing will then continue to make it difficult to access the narrow gate from our campus to FHS in the event you're outside during a lockdown or an evacuation. I'm proud of the groups who improvised during our practice today and hid behind the ballfield fence. That was smart! Going forward, however, please know, you shouldn't have to do that. Members of the crisis team have been given keys which will allow them to unlock the padlock on the big gate at the south end of the baseball field. This will give you access to our well-established place to hideout during a lockdown when you're locked out, or during an evacuation when we need to get to the dome.
Progress Reports
The first grading period officially ends on Friday 09 Oct. That's just about exactly 3 weeks from now. You will recall: we will not be sending home standards reports at that time. Instead, to hopefully save you some time, we will print and deliver to our families at parent-teacher conferences detailed progress reports in grades 3-5. You'll do that in Synergy by selecting and printing the Detailed Progress Report by Subject. No attendance data will be reflected on your progress reports. If you would like to have attendance data for your conferences, please ask the front office to produce a report for you if you're not able to do so yourself.
For grades K-2, FUSD's expectations in this regard are somewhat different. If you're not equipped to print a Detailed Progress Report by Subject for your students, please ensure instead that you're able to provide some sort of current snapshot of student achievement for your parents at conference time using the resources you have at-hand such as AIMSWEB scores, STAR/AR tests, high-frequency word lists, running records, portfolio components, summative assessments, etc.
United Way
October is United Way campaign month in FUSD. Dietrich Sauer and Sylvia Johnson are chairing the effort district-wide and they're seeking coordinators at each site. They'd like to hear from someone(s) at Marshall by Monday 21 Sept. who would be willing to participate along with them in this effort. If that's you, please contact them. Thanks.
Our third grade team has developed a great flyer to help steer parents in the direction of the help that's been placed online for Eureka Math. I put the flyer on our Facebook page the other day and it turned into one of our most popular, most interacted-with posts in a long time. The .pdf is available here.
